Public dollars should go to individual students
Your lead editorial Saturday asserts that “public dollars for private schools” is a difficult issue. Maybe we should all look at it a bit differently: The issue is really how to provide public dollars for individual students. Nobody suggests that food stamp assistance should be provided only through state-run grocery stores, or that rent subsidies be honored only at state owned apartments or that Medicare and/or Medicaid be provided only by state-employed doctors and nurses. So why should education dollars be honored only at public schools? With all these other models, it shouldn’t be hard to find a way to provide public dollars to individual families who want a non-statist education for their children.
