These pepperoni and pineapple skewers make the perfect snack or party appetizer! Loved by kids and adults alike, this salty - sweet combo will remind you of hawaiian pizza toppings, without the pizza guilt.
These pepperoni and pineapple skewers are just one of five recipes in my paleo super bowl snacks post – where I walk you through (in the form of a football game!) preparing an entire super bowl spread that is healthy, paleo, and Whole30 compliant. Game on!
Pizza is one of my favorite foods. And one of my favorite pizza topping combos is pepperoni and pineapple. I'm not a big fan of the ham and pineapple - I know that's the more traditional combo, but the ham just doesn't do anything for me.
Pepperoni, on the other hand, is spicy, flavorful, and the perfect counter to the sweet chunks of pineapple.
If you know me, you know I'm always trying to re-create pizza flavors in healthier ways. Spaghetti Squash Pizza Pasta, Chicken Bacon Ranch Casserole, Sweet Potato Crust Pizza.
For awhile now, I've been eating pepperoni and pineapple as a snack. I usually just take a piece of pineapple, set two chunks of pineapple on it, fold it up like a taco, and eat it in two bites.
They're delicious, require no cooking, and are a super fast snack to have on hand. (Raise your hand if you get sick of snacking on Lara Bars on Whole30.)
No, it's no pizza. But it does get me that awesome flavor combo that I love on the pizza, without all the bread and cheese to make me feel terrible afterwards.
This is the first time I've made pepperoni and pineapple skewers, and I have no idea why it took me so long. Even easier to pull out and snack on, and you can just eat it right off the stick.
There's not really a whole lot to these - cube up some pineapple, then fold your pepperoni in half and in half again before stabbing it.
I love putting pepperoni and pineapple skewers out as an appetizer at parties. They're an unexpected flavor combination that people rave about!
They're also super popular with kids. Just be careful when allowing them to eat off the sharp toothpicks.
They look beautiful when stacked on a platter, and are easy to grab.
Make sure if you're on Whole30, you're getting compliant pepperoni. I get Applegate Farms brand at the deli counter where they slice it for me, and the ingredient label is visible through the glass, so I can make sure there's no sugar or additives in it! Just remember to read your ingredient labels.
Happy snacking!
